Editorial Integrity Policy
Effective Date: January 1, 2026
My reputation is worth more than a free floor jack. I do not accept payments from manufacturers to change a review score. If a tool is dangerous, I will say it.
1. Independence
Hydraulic Tools Shop is an independent publication. We are not owned by, operated by, or subsidiary to any tool manufacturer (such as Harbor Freight, Torin, or OTC).
While we earn revenue through affiliate commissions (see our Affiliate Disclosure), the brands do not dictate our content.
2. No “Pay-to-Play” Reviews
To maintain our objectivity, we adhere to the following strict rules:
- We do not accept money for reviews: Brands cannot pay us to feature their product in a “Top 10” list.
- We do not submit previews: Manufacturers are not allowed to read or approve our reviews before they are published.
- We disclose free units: If a company sends us a tool for evaluation, we will clearly state this in the review. However, receiving a tool does not guarantee a positive review.
3. How We Rate Products
When analyzing hydraulic tools, we focus on three core metrics. Marketing fluff is ignored.
- 1. Safety & Build Quality (50%): Does it have an overload valve? Are the welds clean? Is the steel thick enough for the rated tonnage?
- 2. Real-World Utility (30%): Does it fit under a real car? Is the handle long enough? Does it hold pressure overnight?
- 3. Price-to-Value (20%): Is it worth the money, or are you paying for a logo?
4. Corrections & Updates
The tool industry changes fast. Manufacturers change specs without warning. We are committed to accuracy.
If we discover that a tool we previously recommended has undergone a manufacturing change that lowers its quality (e.g., switching from steel to plastic parts), we will update the review and downgrade the score.
